Bike types

Each bike type is designed for specific conditions. For this reason cross-country bikes will not be appropriate in a bike park. On the other hand, downhill bikes will cause difficulties to ascend a mountain. For a better orientation we provide a short summary of bike types:

Downhill

Downhill bikes are recommended for those who want to get the most out of their bike park visit. Downhill bikes that have full suspension are perfect on trails with many jumps, roots and stones as well as on technical freeride routes. Thanks to the sophisticated construction you always have enough energy when it gets tough on the trails of Saalbach Hinterglemm. High speeds and rough terrain impose special demands on the technology of downhill bikes and therefore limit their use to riding on mountain runs.

Enduro

Enduro mountain bikes usually have full suspension. Compared to the cross-country and touring mountain bikes, they have an extended spring travel, an adjustable chassis, wider and deeper treaded tyres and a different frame geometry. The difference with respect to a downhill bike is that Enduro bikes, similarly to all-mountain bikes, are much more tour-friendly than downhillers, which are mostly suitable for descents only. Enduro bikes are often used in Saalbach Hinterglemm and are recommended not only for beginners, but also for advanced bikers, who want to ascend a mountain with their own strength.

Cross-country

The cross-country mountain bike is designed for unpaved paths and roads and is less suitable in difficult terrain. These are mainly Hardtails, but there are also Fullys that are designed for cross-country biking. Cross-country bikes are characterised by less spring travel than most mountain bikes and for this reason they are perfect for longer tours. Therefore this type of bike is recommended for extensive tours in Saalbach Hinterglemm, but it is not appropriate in bike parks or on technical, challenging trails.
