Say goodbye to tough ski decisions

There are, of course, the right pair of skis for any terrain and thus I find myself pondering in front of the overfilled boot of my car before the beginning of my one-week-long ski holiday in Saalbach Hinterglemm. Which skis should I take with me? The race carvers for the perfectly prepared slopes? The twin tips for some freestyle action in the snow park? But I will also be needing some big powder skis, in case the forecasts come true and there will be a huge load of fresh snow…

But I arrive in Saalbach Hinterglemm with light luggage, because my skis ended up staying in the basement this holiday. With a content smile, I watch the heavily burdened visitors as they bring their skis to the storage in front of the hotel. I walk straight up to the next ski rental service where I book my flat rate for the week. Almost all rental services now offer this feature: book your skis for a week and switch as often as you like. And that is exactly what I’m going to do, because I want to take advantage of everything that this diverse Skicircus has to offer! And, incidentally, that left a whole lot of space for additional cool ski outfits.

Great gear for great slopes

For the warm-up, I’m hitting the slopes today, including the entire Skicircus tour. I equip myself with new-generation race carvers at the ski rental service. Freshly waxed and with sharpened edges, of course. When I think of my old carvers, where the coating already has a grey shimmer and the edges have gotten rusty, I know straight away that I’ve made the right decision! With a big fat smile on my face, I slide across the freshly prepared slopes and explore the runs in Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Leogang and Fieberbrunn. With burning calves, I return the skis to the ski rental service in the evening. Meanwhile, it has started to snow, and fresh powder snow has been announced for the next day.

Off to the park with twin tips

And that’s why I go for freestyle skis the next morning, because I feel most comfortable in the snow park when the snow has fallen so densely. Well advised and once again equipped with the newest gear, it’s time to hit the park! Playfully, I explore the ski cross, the rails, the boxes and small kickers. The locals are also shredding the park and show me a trick or two. But I leave the big airs to the big players and prefer to test my skills at the smaller obstacles. However, even just watching the more skilled skiers at the huge kickers is a ton of fun.

Surfing through the deep snow on powder skis

One thing is clear, this day is going to be awesome. I reserved the super wide deep snow skis for the morning and booked a freeride guide on top of that. He will bring me securely and without any detours to the best spots. Of course, I’ve brought my ABS backpack, my sensor, my shovel and my LVS device as we make it to the first untouched slope. I just can’t resist and have to let out a few celebratory cheers, because the feeling of surfing across the snow with the wide skis is just incredible! Earn your turns – on the summit with tour skis

This service is also offered by my ski rental services, so I swap my skis again with the help of my flat rate. This time, I am of course going to be needing matching tour ski boots and skins so that I can climb the summit according to the motto “earn your turns”. The feeling of freedom that you experience when climbing up the deep snow slopes on your own strength can’t be put into words. That makes the descent twice as fun! But my muscles are starting to get tired now, and I change my equipment for the last time.

Through the snow trails on fun carvers

The fun carvers are especially fun this time around, because I want to relive some childhood memories while embarking on the snow trails through the Skicircus’ forest regions. These skis allow me to travel flexibly and swiftly, so the twisty trails around the trees are a whole lot of fun. Natural waves and steep turns challenge my reaction times and skills. Satisfied, I seek some rest in the afternoon on a sun terrace on one of the 60 ski huts, while recharging my batteries with hot chocolate and Kaiserschmarren. One thing is clear: “I’m going to be leaving my old skis in the basement again next time around, because the flat rate gives me the freedom to find the right skis every day for this incredibly versatile ski area!”
